Jiu Jitsu for Peaceful Warriors

Have you ever wanted to be a peaceful warrior? Jiu Jitsu is a popular sport for peaceful warriors due to its great history, training and competition.
By understanding what Jiu Jitsu is and its history, you can start to understand what makes it great. Jiu jitsu is a martial art related to judo. Jiu-jitsu is “a form of unarmed self-defense and spiritual development.”1 The traditional clothing is a gi and belt2 ranging from white to black. Mitsuyo Maeda was training in a special kind Japanese jiu jitsu. Mitsuyo Maeda was trained in jiu-jitsu that is more peaceful because some of the dangerous aspects were removed and instead was trained in ground fighting and controlling his opponent. Mitsuyo Maeda went to Brazil and trained the natives. Mitsuyo Maeda also taught the Graice family. The Graice family had a focus on ground fighting and grappling because of this they created Brazilin jiu jitsu. Now jiu jitsu is being trained in America. Jiu jitsu is a popular sport because it is international.
Internationally, Brazilin jiu-jitsu academies are teaching people to be like peaceful warriors. “As of 2011, there are many jiu-jitsu schools, most of which emphasize self-improvement and self-defense.”3 The academy I attend is Jiu-Jitsu Foundation and it is run by two Brazilian masters. The Jiu-Jitsu Foundation masters train people in competition and self defense to be warriors. These masters teach their students to be respectful of everybody. Masters award medals for great competitors.
