Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense Camp with Leticia Ribeiro
Last weekend I had the pleasure to participate in one of the best female Brazilian Jiu Jitsu events of 2012. Leticia Ribeiro, the 8 time world champion put together a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Camp for the whole female Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and self defense camp was a weekend long event and was open to all belts and all Jiu Jitsu schools. The turn out was amazing, we shared the mats with over 70 female fighters. The women came from all over the globe, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Alaska and many more, it was nice to see the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community growing world wide.
The camp started on Friday, May 4th at Selva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in LA. Friday night, Leticia shared some good techniques and tips about the half guard. Right from the beginning it was incredible to see the energy among the girls. Of course there was some competition, but overall the girls showed that they were there to learn and make new friends. Then on Saturday, we had the opportunity to learn from Bia Mesquita, Penny Thomas, Mackenzie Dern which was a great experience.
As a Martial Arts Instructor, I recommend all my students to participate in an event like this. Leticia is an outstanding fighter and coach, and most of all she is a role model for women who train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Jiu Jitsu Foundation thanks Leticia Ribeiro for the amazing opportunity she provides for the female Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world.
